Mise-En-Scene in Ferris Bueller

Costume

In this scene the costumes have a wide variation. There are the normal pedestrians who are dressed in casual everyday clothes, there are the people who are participating in the parade who are dressed up and there are the dancers who are dressed in bright, baggy clothes that allows them to move easily.
By looking at the costumes, it is quite easy to tell what role the person wearing the costume is playing because of this wide variation. Most of the pedestrians are wearing neutral or dark colours, this separates them from the people in the parade and the dancers because of the dramatic colour difference and helps the audience to keep track of which person plays which role.

Make-up

Similar to the costume, there are different types of make-up represented in this scene. the pedestrians have a very natural make-up look or even have no make-up on, which links to their costume which have the same characteristics. On the other hand, the people in the parade have very bright make-up to match their clothes and to draw attention to them.

Props

The props used in this scene are mainly used in the effort to create excitement and to gran the audience's attention, for example, there is a wide use of brightly coloured balloons and confetti scattered around the setting. There are also very large props like the parade floats that are very easy to spot because of the size contrast in comparative to the hundreds of people surrounding them, these floats could be used in order to make the scene less messy and to give the audience a focal point.
The placement of the props is very scattered and has no organisation, which further shows the audience that there is a lot of excitement going on in the scene.

Location

This scene is located in the streets of a big city, which give the actors an unlimited space to work in. Because of the large amount of space in this scene, there was the opportunity to bring a large amount of people into the scene which created an even more convincing representation of a street parade, it also allowed the director to accurately mimic the actual atmosphere and excitement of a parade as well.

Lighting

The lighting in this scene is mostly natural lighting because it is set outside, however there are barely any shadows and the whole scene seems mainly very bright which brings a light-hearted and happy atmosphere into the scene. The bright lighting also allows the audience to observe what's going on in the scene easily.
